Hundreds of pounds has been raised to help save a popular family show after the scout hut where organisers stored their props started to fall down.

The High Wycombe Scout and Guide Gang Show was at risk after the scout hut where they kept a raft of stage props became too dilapidated to save.

But a fundraising page has been set up to help raise cash so the Gang Show - which is performed every year at the Lancaster Arts Centre at Wycombe Abbey - can continue.

The money raised will go towards buying their own shipping container where all their scenery, props, staging and equipment can be safely stored for years to come.

So far, £655 has been raised of the £1,000 target.

Writing on the page, fundraising organiser Katie Sinclair said: "We need your help to save our props, scenery and staging from the skip.

"Our vision is to keep reusing and recycling our scenery, props and staging. We have done this for many years trying to keep our costs down and in turn being good for the environment.

"All of our staging, scenery and props are hand made by a team of volunteers, parents and leaders. They really do make the show shine.

"Things we have made are space ships to fly into space, revolving stages to celebrate, lorries for a carnival, tree houses in Africa, cars for Grease, UV items in the form of a garden.

"It’s rained on stage, we’ve danced with canes, had splurging guns for Bugsy to name a few.

"It’s with great sadness the Scout hut we stored our beloved props in slowly started to fall down and unfortunately is not saveable.

"Whilst we were very lucky to have had support from another charity to store our precious props they need their space back.

"Moving forward we would like to buy our very own shipping container. We have a location to put it but desperately need help to be able to purchase it, transport it and make it weatherproof.

"Ideally we would like to buy some solar panel lights so we can see in it."

The popular show has been running since 1986 in the centre of the town. The cast and crew is made up of more than 100 local members of the Scout and Guide Associations who produce, manage and perform the whole show.
