A TEENAGER was hit by a car near a pedestrian crossing this morning.

South Central Ambulance Service has confirmed that it sent an ambulance to Kennington, near Oxford, at 8.18am today.

A spokeswoman said a male in his late teens had been hit by a car in Kennington Road, and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital.

The ambulance service did not state if his injuries were thought to be serious.

Residents posting on the Kennington Connected Facebook page this morning said the collision happened outside the Post Office, where there is a pedestrian crossing.

SCAS did not confirm if the teenager was believed to have been crossing the road at the time.

One villager, posting on the Facebook page, said: "It was a pedestrian and a car at the crossing.

"Everyone involved seemed fine but quite shaken up."

An earlier post had suggested that a cyclist had been hit, but she said the cyclist was 'just a good Samaritan' who stopped to help until emergency services arrived.

Another commenter said she had seen the ambulance as well as police on the scene.
