UPDATE

Magistrates have today given police more time to question two men arrested on suspicion of murder following the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Mohammed Aman Ashraq in Benjamin Lane, Wexham on Saturday evening.

A post-mortem has been undertaken and the cause of death has been established as a stab wound to the chest/abdomen.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Dejan Avramovic of Thames Valley Police's Major Crime Unit, said: "We have also arrested a third 18-year-old man from Slough on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. They all remain in custody at this time.

"We can confirm that the victim and those arrested were known to each other and we believe at the time of the incident there was no wider danger to the general public".

"Neighbourhood patrols are continuing and we would encourage anyone with any concerns to please speak to one of our officers.

"A number of scene watches remain in place whilst we continue our investigation.

"We would continue our appeal for information and would ask anyone who has not yet come forward to please get in touch and call 101 quoting reference 1118 4/1/20."

LPA Commander for Slough Superintendent Lee Barnham said “This is a tragic incident in which a young man has lost his life, and our thoughts remain with Mr Ashraq’s family. Undoubtedly this will have had a significant impact on them and on the wider community.

“Please be reassured that we are carrying out a thorough investigation and will continue to work with the community to offer support at this difficult time.

“Members of the public will continue to see an increased police presence whilst we investigate and through increased neighbourhood patrols.

“We would encourage any members of the community with any concerns to please approach our officers.”

Lawrence Smith, headteacher at Wexham Secondary School which Mohammed Ashraq attended until last summer said: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the death of a former student at Wexham, Mohammed Ashraq, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

“Mohammad was a student at Wexham until July 2019 and was well known and well liked by staff and students of many different year groups. He was a friendly, caring and personable young man who had great potential and his whole life ahead of him. He had a great sense of humour and we know he will be very much missed.

“We know his death and the manner of it, may affect our students and we have put support in place for both students and staff at this difficult time.”
