St Peter's Middle School in Old Windsor remains closed today - but headteacher Andy Snipp is optimistic and upbeat in a Facebook message to parents.

Pupils were sent home yesterday after a student returned from a half-term holiday destination affected by the coronavirus. A precautionary clean is being carried out.

But in his most recent Faceboom yesterday Mr Snipp said: "I have spoken with the family involved and they have reassured me that they had not traveled to any of the lock-down areas situated in Northern Italy.

"We are grateful to the family for their cooperation. They have followed all guidelines in accordance with Public Health England and will continue to do so.

"Secondly, I have spoken to Public Health England myself this morning. They report that the actions taken by the school were also very good. They said it is right that we reassure ourselves with a comprehensive clean of the school. They also recommend that once the school is open again parents provide their children with hand-sanitizer or anti-bacterial wipes.

"Finally to ensure that the school is fully sanitized and I am confident that we are 100% ready to re-open, the school will remain shut on Thursday. This will allow the school's cleaning team the time they have asked for to complete the work.

"I do hope that you will agree with me that in this circumstance an approach of 'better to be safe...' is entirely appropriate and the one which I know you would wish me to take. We would ask that during the day tomorrow, students with access to our online resources make use of these, as well as completing Homework tasks and of course continuing with their reading.

"I do appreciate that there was significant disruption this morning and thank you all for your patience and support."
