Frying pans were at the ready when the annual ComXo Windsor & Eton Flippin’ Pancake Challenge took place on Tuesday.

New to the race were the First Battalion Welsh Guards - who won the silver trophy, months after settling into barracks in the town.

But the winners of the race - held as usual at Windsor Royal Shopping - were the team from the Macdonald Hotel.

They called themselves the Macdonald not the Macdonald team and - overseen by the general manager John Wilcox - won out over the hotel's second team the Macdonald Flippin Tossers.

The Wren's Witches team from the Sir Christopher Wren's House Hotel won the bronze medal.

Crowds gathered in Windsor Royal Station to witness the spectacle of grown men and women with their hair in rollers, wearing headscarves, lipstick and frocks as they battled it out in the hotly contested heats.

Five mascots lined up for the annual mascot race which included entries from the Alexandra Devine charity, ComXo, MacDonald Hotel and Theatre Royal Windsor. The Alexander Devine Hospice Service won.

Trophies for the day were sponsored by the engravers Argraves and presented by Deputy Mayor of Windsor and Maidenhead Councillor Gary Muir

Sue Watts from Windsor Royal Shopping said “It was a pleasure to host the Flippin Pancake Challenge once again, on a nice fresh sunny morning. We had an increase on the number of teams this year which was good to see. It is a delight to host this very special event which help raise funds for good causes in the town centre.”

More than £500 is expected to be raised from the Pancake Challenge with the funds shared between Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, Windsor Homeless Project and More than a Shelter.

The Windsor and Eton Pancake race are organised by the Windsor and Eton Town Partnership.
