The Epilepsy Society have asked members of the local community to register as volunteers amid fears that the Coronavirus outbreak could cause staff shortages.

The Chalfont St Peter based charity is home to more than 90 residents with epilepsy and associated disabilities who are at increased risk during the current health crisis.

The charity is looking for people who would be able to offer a friendly smile, a chat or a helping hand with tasks such as shopping and cooking.

Chief Executive Clare Pelham said: “We have a fantastic workforce at the Epilepsy Society, including a team of amazing volunteers from the local community who regularly come and help out with shopping and activities in our residential homes.

“But we are all vulnerable at the moment and we need to make contingency plans in case a significant number of our staff have to self isolate. So we are appealing to the community - if you are fit and healthy and have not been in contact with Covid-19, please consider joining our register of volunteers who might be able to come and support our care staff in looking after our residents.”

Clare Pelham continued: “It is very rewarding work and you could really make a difference to someone’s life. Along with many of my non-care colleagues at the Epilepsy Society, I am on stand by to go and support our hard working staff and ensure that our residents receive the care they need.

“If you can come and join us, we will look forward to hearing from you.”
