BRAY Parish Council (BPC) has shut down its office and cancelled all meetings due to the coronavirus.

They announced this via social media saying the decision was made following the recent advice from the government for people to avoid any unnecessary social contact.

All meetings have been cancelled until the end of April where parish councillors will review the situation and determine if it’s safe to resume all activity.

Councillor Ken Elvin, chairman of BPC, said all councillors will be working remotely from home for the time being and have protocol to make decisions in the absent of any meetings.

Concerned residents can still contact parish councillors via telephone or email.

The annual electors meeting, which was due to take place Tuesday, was cancelled not due to fears of the coronavirus, claimed councillor Elvin, but because of resident turn out being sparse and the government’s advice.

He said: “We have a disaster recovery plan which is everybody takes their computers and work from home.

“We’ll still be in regular contact with everybody via email and telephone.

“We have a strategy group that meets and came to the conclusion that the best bet was to fold up our tent and work remotely.

“So, it’s business not quite as usual.”

Prior to the government’s announcement, BPC issued a statement asking people to book an appointment rather than walk in and to avoid the office if they have symptoms of a cold or sore throat.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council has also ceased operations of services such as the Achieving for Children youth support group, which announced it will suspend all youth and children centre sessions until further notice.

If any Bray residents have any queries and need to contact BPC, they can email the clerk, Mrs Susan Cook at clerk@brayparishcouncil.gov.uk.
