AN URGENT call for donations to purchase much-needed materials for non-surgical scrubs has been made by the Mayor.

The Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, councillor Sayonara Luxton (Conservative: Sunningdale and Cheapside), has called for emergency funds to go towards producing non-surgical scrubs for healthcare workers as they deal with the influx of Covid-19 patients.

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, which includes Wexham Park, Heatherwood and Frimley Hospital, and other local health organisations are in need of this protection for their employees as additional staff have been recruited to take care of patients during this unprecedented time.

NHS bosses have criticised the government over the lack of surgical gowns across England and are running out for staff to protect themselves when treating patients with coronavirus.

Lynda Young Couture, a local fashion manufacturer, and their team of seamstresses have agreed to donate their time to make these scrubs for NHS staff.

If you would like to donate your time and are an experienced seamstress, you can contact Lynda Young Couture on 01344 628200.

Cllr Luxton said: “I would like to thank all the people who have so far generously contributed to this appeal either by making a monetary donation or giving their time and expertise to make the scrubs.

“The medical staff have been delighted with the scrubs – some of which are in very colourful cheerful fabric – and also with the messages of support that the sewers have included with the scrubs.

“Thank you all for your support. I am indeed grateful, as our medical staff and patients are too. Take care, stay safe and well”.

To keep an accurate record of funds, those wishing to donate are asked to email the Mayor at mayors.parlour@rbwm.gov.uk or calling the Mayor’s secretary on 01628 696223 with your name, contact details and the amount donated.
