SECONDARY school teachers have recorded a video message to remind students ‘we are there for you’ during the lockdown.

Teachers from Cox Green School in Maidenhead produced a video, titled ‘we’ll be there for you 2’ and is set to the Friend’s theme tune, to entertain pupils and remind them teachers are still there for them if needed even if they’re not in school.

School staff can be seen showing off their dance skills, rocking air guitar on badmintons and pay homage to the hit TV show by getting their parasols out.

Lucy Winchcombe, head of science, was on guitar and drums in the video and was the mastermind and editor of the video, coming up with the idea during the Easter holidays.

She said: “We haven’t had contact with the students for so long now and I know that some of the students were quite upset when the school closed, especially the older students because they thought this isn’t how school was going to end.

“I know other schools do an end of year video to say goodbye to their students and I thought why don’t we do something to remind our students that we are there for them?

“Even though we’re not in school at the moment, we’re still here if they need us.”

Miss Winchcombe added: “It’s put a smile on our students faces and it reminded them that we are still here.

“We’ve had really nice emails from parents as well to say it was an uplifting way to start the week.”

The school is still open for vulnerable children and those of key workers where online classes have been set up for remote students.

Ellen Mackenzie, personal assistant at Cox Green School, said: “She [Miss Winchcombe] is well known for her creativity, sense of humour and organising activities for staff but I must also tell you she has mastered the art of online social distancing – been amazing in getting staff involved in quizzes and very funny updates and posts online which has really helped us stay positive and buoyant.”
