A TEMPORARY care service in Maidenhead has been rated ‘good’ following an unannounced inspection.

Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited the respite service in March 2020 and rated 9 Allenby Road, which provides short breaks for adults with learning difficulties, good in all areas including safe, responsive, well-led and caring.

The report highlighted commitments made by the team, ensuring that those who use the service have “maximum choice and control over their lives and staff support.”

It also notes that 9 Allenby Road, which is operated by the council’s adult social care partner, Optalis, is well-managed and the people who use it are treated with dignity and respect where one client described the care home as “my lifeline”.

The care home provides personal and nursing care for up to four people with learning difficulties where two people were using the service at the time of the inspection.

Inspectors recommended more staff should complete training in Makaton, a language programme used by people with learning difficulties, which the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead said has now been arranged.

Councillor Stuart Carroll, lead member for adults, children and mental health, said: “This is a wonderful result for a wonderful service.

“It is a vital lifeline for many, and I am delighted that the hard work of the team has rightly been recognised by the CQC.

“The amazing team at 9 Allenby Road, however, are not complacent and will work to implement some of the suggestions made by the CQC as they work towards making the service outstanding.”

9 Allenby Road, Maidenhead, was rated ‘good’ back in 2017.
