Don't let the lockdown stop you commemorating the 75th anniversary of VE Day today.

That is the message to the people of Slough and the Royal Borough as the big day approaches - but it has to be safe.

The Royal British Legion is calling on people to pause for two minutes silence at 11am.

There is no right or wrong way to take part in the Silence, some may wish to stand at their windows, step outside their homes while remaining distanced from others, watch the broadcast on television, or simply sit in a quiet moment of reflection.

The Last Post will be played at 2.55pm with the nation's toast to the heroes of World War 2 at 3pm, as the pipers in 27 countries around the world play.

While the pipers are playing, people are encouraged to raise a glass of refreshment of their choice and undertake the following ‘Toast’ – “To those who gave so much, we thank you,”

At 9pm after The Queen a UK-wide rendition of Dame Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again’ will take place.

Pageant master Bruno Peek - the man who has spearheaded numerous past commemorations said: "As we face some of the most challenging times since the end of the Second World War, now more than ever it is important to come together and unite.

"We need you and as many people as possible to take part in this national moment of thanksgiving and celebration, in honour of our Second World War generation.

"You can watch and join in on BBC One who will be featuring the singalong as part of their VE Day broadcast.
