The fight over Heathrow Airport's expansion plan is to continue - now that the Supreme Court has granted permission for an appeal against an earlier ruling which said the Government had not taken climate change into account when it presented the plans to parliament.

Geraldine Nicholson from Stop Heathrow Expansion, based in the areas around Heathrow that would be demolished to make way for the new runway, said: “We always expected this case to reach the highest court in the land.

“Now it is for the Supreme Court judges to make a decision over our future.

“We will be following the proceedings very closely and expect the Supreme Court to uphold the Court of Appeal ruling.”

The Royal Borough is among the local authorities opposed to the expansion plans, while Slough Borough Council supports them.
