A DISCARDED cigarette caused a huge woodland fire over the weekend (May 30), which needed more than 1000 litres of water to put it out.

Mortimer Fire Station posted shocking pictures of smoke billowing through a forest in Burghfield as firefighters extinguished the blaze.

The fire department said on Saturday: "A morning call to Burghfield today.

"A discarded cigarette started this fire.

"100 metres of hose was pulled through the woods and over 1000 litres of water used to put it out. Please do not drop cigarettes!
