‘PURE wickedness’ is what the leader of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead called the horrendous terror attack in Reading on June 20.

Councillor Andrew Johnson, leader of the council, took to Twitter to respond to the shocking incident in which three people have lost their lives.

He said: “The incident which took place yesterday evening in Forbury Gardens, Reading, was an act of pure wickedness and evil which must be condemned absolutely.

“My thoughts go out to the families and friends of those tragically killed and those who have been injured in this senseless attack.

The council leader and the managing director Duncan Sharkey released a joint statement on behalf of the Royal Borough condemning the attack.

It states: “We, along with our residents, stand with our Berkshire unitary partners and the country in condemning the horrendous attack in Reading.

“Our thoughts go to the family and friends of those tragically killed and those who have been injured in this senseless attack and all those affected by the traumatic scenes. They were enjoying their local park which has become more important than ever as we come out of lockdown.

“Reading is our neighbour and we have reached out to our colleagues there and offered to help in any way we can as they lead their communities through this tragedy.

“We should be proud of Thames Valley Police, especially the bravery of the arresting police officer acting alone, and all those who acted so swiftly.”

A minute’s silence was held at 10am this morning (June 22).
