'UP TO 200 people' allegedly attended a gathering near Battle Square last week, neighbours report.

One said a marquee and sound system had been set up, adding: "In what way are loud unlicensed music events acceptable, even before Covid-19?"

Thames Valley Police (TVP) attended the scene twice on Wednesday, July 8, and no arrests were made.

A spokeswoman from TVP said: "Police were called at around 2pm on Wednesday (8/7) to reports of a gathering in Portman Way, Reading.

"Officers attended and spoke to the individuals involved.

"Further on in the evening, officers were called to the address again where they spoke to the individuals involved.

"This was resolved and no arrests were made."
