The Royal Borough's Environment and Climate Strategy is ready for public consultation - after a series of community workshops aimed at agreeing ways to make Windsor and Maidenhead carbon neutral by 2050.

Councillor Donna Stimson, cabinet member for environmental services said: “There have been a series of workshops with the public, interested groups and councillors so I am hoping this document brings together their thoughts as well as providing some insight to everyone about how we can all work together to tackle climate change in the future.

“The future of our planet is in everyone’s hands and with our target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050 it means we all need to work together to achieve this."

The climate change emergency was declared by the council last June. The first draft of the Environment and Climate strategy, which was formed by a cross-party councillor working group, supported by officers and input from key stakeholders in the community, was approved a year later.

The consultation runs from now until Tuesday, September 29 and asks for feedback on the strategy that sets out an action plan covering the next five years.

The document is based around four strategic themes: recycling, reducing and decarbonising energy use, protecting the environment and getting people away from cars by encouraging walking and cycling.

The draft strategy, as well as the consultation, can be found at: http://consult.rbwm.gov.uk/portal/cc/decs/decs. Complete the consultation online.
