A fire in the bin shoot which forced people to leave their flats in Grosvenor Drive, Maidenhead last night was started by a disposable barbecue.

Firefighters are advising people not to put potentially dangerous items into shoots.

Five fire engines attended the Riverine flats at Grosvenor Drive at 9pm and breathing apparatus had to be used as the fire shot up the length of the shoot to the roof, causing some residents to leave their flats as areas became smoke logged.

Firefighters were there two hours.

A similar incident happened at flats in Athlone Square, Windsor at 9.50pm when a fire started in a bin shoot.

The cause is unknown butfire fighters were there an hour.
