Dedicated young people have staged a mammoth YouTube event bringing together the town's youthful singers, musicians and poets to raise money to help victims of the war in Yemen.

Members of the Aik Saath and New Focus community youth groups got together to stage the event - which was hosted by 21-year-old Fowsiya Olow from Wexham and Ismail Mussa from Cippenham, both former pupils at Slough and Eton College.

Their event was entitled Slough's Youth for Yemen and the two hosted it from Aik Saath's headquarters in Church Street.

It all happened on Sunday, August 2 and ran for an hour and a half.

Performance contributions on line include one young speaker aged only 14.

Those taking part included members of EMPOWORD - the Slough based group incorporating poets, storytellers, rappers and comedians.

Also involved were young people from the town's Beat Routes music workshops which also encourage creative writing and dance.

Information about the crisis in Yemen was shared, highlighting the shocking reality faced by the 24 million Yemenis requiring humanitarian assistance.

The event has already raised over £500 for Médecins Sans Frontiers (MSF), reaching 500 people on YouTube.

Fowsiya said: "The personal highlight for me has been seeing young people come together for such a good cause.

"The war in Yemen does not seem to get so much coverage on the news now but on social media people are talking about it a lot and trying to find ways to help."

"We are looking forward to doing a lot more. We want kids to use their initiative - everyone can come together as a community, that's the message we are trying to get across."
