Legendary fashion designer David Emanuel has been out and about on the streets of Windsor - delivering ready planted sunflowers for businesses to display outside their premises.

It is all part of a Hope and Happiness campaign sponsored by housebuilders Berkeley Homes, aimed at brightening life up after lockdown.

David is vice-president of the Royal Windsor Rose and Horticultural Society (RWRHS) and was co-creator of Lady Diana Spencer’s wedding dress.

He said: "I am thrilled to be a part of such a positive and uplifting campaign. Despite it not being the summer that we had planned, it is great to see the community coming together and the society lifting everyone’s spirits with the donation of sunflowers. We hope that the packets of seeds will have also inspired some budding gardeners ahead of next year’s summer show."

The RWRHS and Berkeley Homes have also launched a picture competition after donating 2,000 packets of dwarf Sunflower ‘Soleil’ seeds to residents at the Taplow Riverside, Woodhurst Park and Brompton Gardens developments.

The best pictures will have the opportunity to win National Garden Gift Vouchers worth up to £100. The competition will be judged by David Emanuel, chairman of RWRHS Andrew Try and Lady Nicola Perowne - wife of the Windsor Castle Governor.

The RWRHS, with her Majesty the Queen as Patron, is one of the oldest continuous running societies of its kind and had been due to celebrate its 115th annual Royal Windsor Summer Show in July but this event has to be cancelled this year.

Benjamin Ivey, sales director at Berkeley Homes, said, “We are delighted to be helping to spread some cheer to local businesses as well as our developments where many residents have been getting involved in growing their own sunflowers. Communities are currently stronger than ever and it is great to see how a small gesture can have such a positive impact.”
