Windsor's own Thames Hospice is one of 10 charities that will benefit from a star studded online event expected to raise more than £500,000.

It will be hosted online by TV and radio presenters Gaby Roslin and Amanda Byram - with performances and appearances from stars including Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Myleene Klass, Chesney Hawkes and Callum Beattie.

The event is the brainchild of the charity Volunteering Matters and will be hosted live from London, streaming online Thursday, September 17 at 8pm to an anticipated audience of more than 20,000.

UK charities are facing over £12bn loss in income due to the COVID-19 restrictions as critical funding and crucial fundraising events ceased overnight. One in 10 charities are at risk of closure if things continue as they are.

Debbie Raven, chief executive of Windsor's Thames Hospice, which is due to move into a new home near Bray Lake in Maidenhead this autumn, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be one of 10 chosen charities to be part of The Massive Get Together and encourage everyone in our local community to unite and sign up to this very exciting online event. This promises to be an incredible evening full of entertainment and supporting some great causes.”

Chief Executive of Volunteering Matters and Founder of the Massive Get Together Paul Reddish said: “This year the nations’ charities have been critical to so many.

"They’ve been at the heart of much of the COVID-19 response - from delivering food to supporting those most isolated in every community throughout the UK.

"Their staff and volunteers continue to provide these vital services, such as end of life care and key support for the vulnerable, despite of the ongoing conditions created by this pandemic.”

Other charities benefitting from the event are St John Ambulance, Marie Curie, Crisis, The Children's Trust, Royal Voluntary Service, FaceShare, Love Thy Neighbour and Conservation Volunteers.

Tickets for The Massive Get Together have gone live - people can access the event by donating just £10 to help 10 charities at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/the-massive-get-together.
