A pupil at Slough's Beechwood School in Long Readings Lane has been confirmed as having the Covid-19 virus.

A letter from executive headteacher Kathleen Higgins sent to parents and students yesterday said that a small number of students in Year 11 would now be working from home for the next 14 days.

She said the student concerned was 'thankfully, not very poorly'.

The letter said the school was working closely with Public Health England. It said: "We are clearly advised by the medical experts that there is no necessity for any other students to be away from school at this time.

"The purpose for organising our school as we have and for having students in discreet year bubbles is to ensure that should there be a case of Covid-19, then only those in close contact would need to stay at home.

"The school therefore remains open and providing your child remains well they can continue to attend as normal - we will keep this under review."

But the letter warns that any child showing symptoms should remain at home for 10 days - and adds that in such a situation 'if you are able, move any vulnerable individuals such as the elderly or those with underlying health problems out of your house to stay with friends, or family for the duration of the home isolation period."
