Supporters of plans for a new Windsor Town Council are invited to join a Zoom meeting next Thursday - taking the first steps towards making it a reality.

The meeting will launch the process of producing a full report into how the new body would operate.

A steering group began campaigning for a Windsor Town Council a year ago - following growing concern that the town needed the sort of locally based representation enjoyed by nearby villages through their parish councils.

The campaign won the support of Cllr Andrew Johnson, leader of the Royal Borough which remains the parent authority for Windsor and Maidenhead and councillors gave the go-ahead to start the process.

Now the steering committee in charge of setting up the new body is calling on Windsor's residents, charity groups and businesses to join together on Zoom on October 1 at 7.30pm to get things going.

All participants will need to register via the website www.windsortowncouncil.uk

Chaired by Robert Peel, the meeting will focus on the new Town Council's main priorities.

Richard Endacott, chairman of the West Windsor Residents Association (WWRA), believes the creation of a WTC will see Windsor residents' views, needs, and demands be better represented on key issues.

Explaining how it would work he said: "Each year every resident pays a precept to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead for a Town Council, it is the ambition to ensure this money is spent specifically on Windsor's roads, pavements, open spaces and to enhance our local community. Please join us on Tuesday 1st October at 7.30pm to hear how we intend to deliver on these priorities."

He sited the creation of a masterplan for Windsor's riverside, a renewal of the infrastructure of Windsor's Dedworth area and new partnerships to keep the town clean.
