A football tournament has raised £485.61 to help people suffering in Yemen.

The Slough based New Focus Youth Group staged the Goals4Yemen tournament as its first post Covid event - held at Powerleague in Ragstone Road.

The day started with a reminder to the young players of what the purpose of the event was - to raise money and awareness of the plight of 24 million Yemenis, 9.58 of them children, who do not have access to safe water, sanitation, or hygiene.

The group had already contacted Suhayl Al-sokary, founder of YemAid and the money raised will be used to help with the costs of opening a bakery in Yemen.

Ismail Mussa, a spokesman for New Focus Youth Group said: "It was great to see the turnout with players across a diverse age range battling it out for a place in the final.

"I would like especially to thank Powerleague for helping us greatly in organising the venue, Rob Deeks from the youth group AikSaath for supporting us and pushing us to do more and finally the players for coming together and educating each other for the crisis that is going on in Yemen."
