THE Royal Borough remains ‘on the cusp’ of entering Tier 2 as the number of cases continues to climb, the council leader warns.

Councillor Andrew Johnson (Conservative: Hurley and Walthams), the leader of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, warned residents the borough is still in danger of further restrictions being imposed following a rise in confirmed cases.

During the week of October 12-18, the Royal Borough saw an additional 213 cases, taking the borough to 140.7 cases per 100,000 population.

The borough has 1,444 total cases to October 29, according to the BBC.

Cllr Johnson stated the situation is “under constant review” and decisions on entering Tier 2 will be based upon the data as well as expert advice from public health professionals and liaison with government.

The leader implored residents to continue to follow the national guidance, such as washing hands regularly, wearing a face-covering where appropriate, follow social distancing, following the rule of six both indoors and outdoors, and self-isolate and get a test if you have symptoms.

He said: “Further restrictions would impact on our freedoms, our community and our local businesses. We all want to be able to continue seeing our loved ones and friends indoors. We want to protect businesses from more restrictions too. You can support your local business by doing your bit to stop the spread.”

Following neighbouring Slough's move to Tier 2 last week, Cllr Johnson announced the borough will stay in medium alert level (Tier 1) pending further review – which the government agreed to.
