The handbag of a woman found dead in woodland at a Chilterns beauty spot has still not been recovered, a week after a murder investigation was launched.

Carole Wright, 62, was tragically found dead in the Watlington Hill National Trust car park at 5.53pm on Friday, October 23.

A man arrested on suspicion of murder is still in hospital with serious injuries.

A week since the murder investigation was launched and police say they still have not found Carole's handbag and are appealing for anyone who was in the area between 2pm and 6pm last Friday to come forward.

Detective Inspector Mike Roddy, of the Major Crime Unit, said: “It has been one week since we launched an investigation into this tragic incident.

“Officers will be in the area of Watlington Hill National Trust car park between midday and 6pm today (October 30) carrying out anniversary checks.

“If you have any information, please speak to any of the officers at that location.

“We are specifically appealing for witnesses who were in the local area between 2pm and 6pm last Friday, who may have seen anything suspicious or unusual to please come forward.

"No matter how small you think the information is, it could be vital to the investigation, so please get in touch.

“Furthermore, we have yet to recover the victim’s handbag and would also appeal to anyone who may have information as to its whereabouts to please let us know.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Horsburgh, Crime Manager, based at Abingdon police station, added: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Carole Wright at this difficult time.

“I appreciate that the local community will have concerns about what has happened and officers will continue to be in the area today as they carry out anniversary checks. Please approach them with any concerns you may have.

“I would again like to thank the local community for their support and cooperation while we have been carrying out vital police work to establish the circumstances of what happened to Carole.”
