Slough's MP Tan Dhesi says he was surprised by the coverage given to his asking the Prime Minister why he hated Slough, at Tuesday's parliamentary debate on the tough new three tier restrictions imposed on the town.

During a debate on the controversial Tier 3 system Mr Dhesi said: "What the powers that be have done is place little old Slough in Tier 3 despite the fact that we are separated from the wider region and there are units in London with much higher Covid transmission rates.

"Why does the Prime Minister hate Slough?"

Johnson replied: "I love Slough and I understand what he is saying. I appreciate peoples' feeling of injustice - people do feel it, no question."

The PM got the new restrictions through but 56 of his own MPs voted against them. Mr Dhesi abstained.

Today Mr Dhesi told the Observer: "It was frustration and anger at the way we were being treated. I was quite forthright.

"I was surprised it got such a lot of coverage.

"I had been thinking about things for several days. We had been promised a regional approach and it did not happen. It is the worst of all worlds.

"The Prime Minister did say 'I love Slough' and that will be appreciated by some'.

"He has said he will look at the whole approach in two weeks. We will see. At least I have been able to get peoples' frustration across on a national platform."
