A mysterious fire at Sawyers Close flats left several cars damaged and residents traumatised last night.

The towering blocks dominate the centre of Dedworth and are home to many of the area's residents.

Sarah Sargent, director of customer experience at Abri Housing Association that runs the flats, said: “We can confirm that fire crews dealt with a fire in an outdoor bin store at Sawyers Close, Windsor, at 10.15pm. While the fire was isolated to the outdoor bin store, a number of cars parked nearby were damaged.

“We take all fire safety matters extremely seriously and the wellbeing of our customers and colleagues remains our priority. Our housing and technical services teams are on site today to make sure the area is safe.

"We’re making door-to-door enquiries and checking in with customers to find out where further support is needed, especially for those customers whose cars were damaged.

"We’re also working with local police and fire crews to make a full investigation into how and why the fire started.”
