A SHOPPER said the lack of working street lights at a supermarket car park is "dangerous" and has slammed the retailer for not fixing them sooner.

The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the pelican crossing in the Warfield Tesco car park has had broken lights for the over two years, making it dangerous in the darker months.

Bracknell News:

The Bracknell customer claims he regularly told managers at the store of the danger the lack of working street lighting could cause to drivers and customers walking in the car park, when it is dark.

He said: "Tesco had their lights upgraded and replaced with presumably solar power ones but they still don't work. The pelican crossing right in the centre of the car park does not give enough light and by 6-7pm they just give up.

"It is really difficult to see at this time of night and it's a real issue because it is dangerous. "About a year ago there was a close call between a pedestrian and a car and it's awkward as the bend makes it worse.

"Things have got done in the past but the main issue is to do with the mains. I don't know why they don't just fix the main issue than keep replacing the heads."

The Tesco customer said he had walked the previous store manager around the car park three times last year to show him that the street lights next to the pelican crossing needs fixing.

He also did the same with the next store manager, to which he claims there has been no progress.

Tesco said the broken light has been reported to their maintenance team.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We have a combination of solar-powered and electric car park lighting throughout the car park at our Bracknell North superstore including near to pelican crossings.”
