The home arranged for almost each resident to be given a vaccine with the support of Dr Suresh of Easthampstead surgery, whilst having their injections in order to support one another through the vaccination process.

Diane Oxley, 77, was one of the first residents in the queue to receive the vaccine. She said: "I’ve been waiting for this and will be so glad to get it done!”

Care UK, the company which runs the care home, said they will be continuing to follow strict covid guidelines, including deep cleaning, regular testing, use of masks and PPE and social distancing to ensure residents and staff continue to be safe.

Erika Smith, Home Manager at Bickerton House, said: “We were so pleased that residents in our home have had the vaccination. I would like to offer my thanks to the NHS team at Easthampstead surgery. They were incredibly efficient, friendly, and made sure everything went smoothly, which was much appreciated.

“This is the first step towards getting back to normal, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off the year. We’re looking forward to receiving our second dose of the vaccine as soon as we’re able.”
