Cippenham's Royal British Legion Club is facing possible closure after its roof started to collapse.

The club at Brook Path has had problems with leaks in the roof over the years but with 400 members aged from their 20s to 90s plus a policy of encouraging families, it has been a much loved community centre.

Despite being closed by Covid the committee organised a refurbishment with a new coat of paint and carpet ready for the return to normal.

Then disaster struck.

Club chairman Susan Ifill said: "We had two leaks in the main hall and had to put buckets up. Then on Saturday we found that tiles had fallen down in the lounge bar.

"Chances of the club surviving are about 50 50. Without the problem with the roof there is enough to tide us over but if the roof really goes we will have to close."

It is estimated that long term repair would cost £80,000 to £100,000. But if the club can raise £6,000 for emergency repairs it could have a future.

The committee is hoping the community will rally round to save the club which is now 75 years old.
