A man who stole a delivery van and rammed it into a police car has been jailed.

Jason Seagrove, 39, walked up the driveway of a woman's home in Langley Road, Slough, on the afternoon of September 2 last year - but walked away when she rattled her blinds at him.

A little while later and Seagrove, of Gilliat Road in Slough, jumped into the front seat of a delivery van while the driver was out of the vehicle.

He fled the scene, driving through a red light and over a narrow bridge on Middlegreen Road.

Police who were in the area were alerted and chased Seagrove through the streets - but he rammed the police vehicle as he tried to get away.

When he got to Chadwick Road, he fled the van and ran down a canal path - but he was captured and arrested by police.

The 39-year-old was charged with dangerous driving, attempted burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle and driving without insurance.

At the end of a trial at Reading Crown Court on February 2, Seagrove was found guilty of dangerous driving, attempted burglary and driving without insurance.

He also pleaded guilty to stealing the van and theft from a motor vehicle.

He has been jailed for three and a half years, disqualified from driving for 41 months and must take an extended re-test.

Case investigator Wushma Qureshi, from Slough Priority Crime Team, said: “It is clear Seagrove set out that day to steal and even when deterred from the first property he quickly came up with another plan.

“Having stolen the van, he then put other road users at risk by driving in a completely reckless manner, including ramming a police car with two officers inside. Luckily they were not seriously injured.

“I hope that his prison sentence will give him time to thank about his atrocious criminal behaviour and also demonstrate that Thames Valley Police will never tolerate these kind of actions in our communities.”
