A CREATIVE student hopes to bring her poem to life whilst raising awareness for mental health.

Abirami Sritharan from Slough has been announced as the winner of Time to Talk's poetry competition with her poem 'It's all just a facade'.

The poem speaks volumes about the importance of mental health and talking to someone if you're in need of help.

She said: "I have always loved talking to people and being sociable has been a great skill as it has allowed several people to come and open up to me about their Mental Health.

"I’ve surrounded myself with amazing people and I wish to advocate the importance of mental health for others, especially as a student who is wishing to go into the Medicine field, so that they know that they also have people to talk to!"

The Upton Court Grammar students work has been so successful that a production company is hoping to bring the poem to life.

Resource Productions are inviting Berkshire-based artists and filmmakers to pitch to work with Abirami, to shoot and edit a film based on her poem.

Dominique Unsworth, a Slough-based producer, said: “Congratulations to Abirami for winning the poem to a parent contest. 'It’s all just a façade' is a beautiful poem about mental health and how parents, carers and their children should be open with one another.

"Now we’re looking for a creative filmmaker to bring Abirami’s words to life!”
