PUBS and restaurants are set to allow customers to eat and drink inside for the first time this year on May 17.

Swindon taverns have seen a roaring trade since beer gardens reopened last month and they will soon be able to use their indoor facilities again as well.

But some have called for the reopening date to be moved up as the hospitality sector has struggled through three lockdowns.

We asked Adver readers whether indoor dining should be allowed straight away.

Here's what you thought...

TRACEY BOYD: "I think so, seeing as hospital admissions and deaths are so low.

"I understand that it's a combination of lockdown and the vaccine roll-out, but the majority of people who want a vaccine and are vulnerable, have now had one.

"I can, however understand the need for caution, but it would be nice to think they could review the current situation and amend the roadmap."

MELANIE LECRAS: "No! Things were rushed last time. And look what happened."

DAN BOND: "Yes, the gyms are open so open up the restaurants, simple."

RYAN WHEELER: "No, we should stop trying to rush things. We only have 10 days to wait, then it should happen."

AMANDA FRANKS: "Yes. It will never be like before. We now have our vulnerable vaccinated and the hospitals and death numbers are so low.

"Preventing businesses from making a living at this stage in my opinion is criminal. We are not in the same situation and Boris said data not dates. He is sticking to dates despite the data."

ROBERT SMITH: "Even one death is not comparable to having an indoor meal, surely you all realise this. So long as its someone else's loved one is it OK to ignore?

"Not been to pub yet, quite happy to have a drink at home - safer, cheaper. This smacks of Jaws - we must keep the beaches open, no matter some will die?"

NICKY KENT: "I don’t think people are just concerned about having a meal. Pubs, bars, restaurants and hotels are also people’s livelihoods.

"It’s been a long time now and some pub and restaurant owners won’t bounce back. The vaccinations are working here, the way people live in India is very different to how we live.

"However, I’m happy to wait until June 21 for lifting of all restrictions as per the government roadmap."

SHARON SELBY: "Yes we should so we can do a decent trade instead of being open one minute and closed the next due to the weather. Roll on the 17th of May."

ANDREW ROPER: "No, the lock is gradually opening the country which is great but one thing we have to be aware of is India because their Covid-19 could hit the world."

PAUL DURNFORD: "Yes. Pubs had social distancing in place before lockdown. It’s no fun having a meal outside."

HAYLEY TAKLE: "No! Do it too quick and we will be back to where we started."

PAUL BARKER: "Obviously they should be open, it's ridiculous they're still not allowed."

PAUL DENNY: "No, we need to go slowly at this."

JULIE THOMPSON: "Yes! If we can scramble around like loonies in Tesco, why can't we do it in the pub?"

DARREN PHILLIPS: "No, keep them closed."

ANDREW BIRCH: "We have been doing this for months in Spain. We had very low infections but unlike UK, we have to wear a mask as soon as we step out of our property I think that makes a difference. We look at UK TV and outside, you hardly see anybody wearing them."
