A RESIDENT has revealed how he waited more than two hours to receive his Covid jab because of "horrendous" car queues.

Anil Madineni, 40, from Earley, said he had an appointment booked to receive his first Covid jab at the Madejski Stadium at 1.45pm on Wednesday (May 5).

He arrived at the stadium at 1.40pm explaining he didn't want to arrive too early in order to avoid overcrowding the site.

He said he didn't leave until 4.20pm having received his jab at about 4.05pm.

Anil said the volunteers and staff were "absolutely lovely" and "should receive a big round of applause".

He said: "They have been working their socks off so that there is no overcrowding."

However, he explained the car parking queue was "horrendous" and was causing long delays.

The volunteers were only letting a few cars into the site at a time and people were asked to wait inside their cars, he said.

Anil explained the pedestrian queue was moving and he would have finished much quicker if he had been dropped off at the site instead.

He said: "Without a car then my experience would have been brilliant."

One person tweeted a picture which showed dozens of people waiting to get into the site.

Commenting on a public discussion group on Facebook, one resident said: "It took me 2 1/2 hours from arriving at Madejski to getting the vaccine.

"Really busy today, it might be quieter towards the end of the day."

Another added: "Snap, arrived at 1.15pm and left 3.45pm."

Others said their experience was much quicker.

One said: "What's causing the hold up? They were great when I went about 45 minutes from driving in to driving out including the 15 minutes wait."

Another explained: "Went on Monday evening and walked right in got jabbed with no wait then sat for 15 mins and walked right out."

Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, who are running the vaccination centre, have been contacted for comment.
