ANGRY motorists have hit out at ‘traffic chaos’ caused by rehearsals for the Queen’s birthday.

Her Majesty will be celebrating her 95th birthday this Saturday (June 12), albeit at a reduced scale due to the ongoing pandemic.

As usual, the Trooping the Colour will be there to mark the Queen’s birthday and a parade will be held by the Household Division, and the Queen’s Colour of F Company Scots Guards will be trooped, Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

While many Brits are looking forward to watching this playout on TV this Saturday, rehearsals for the major event required the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to close several roads, causing unaware motorists to queue yesterday (June 9).

St Leonards Road (from Bolton Road roundabout), and parts of Frances Road, Osbourne Road, Kings Road, and Albert Road will be closed from Wednesday, June 9, to Saturday, June 12, at various times.

Unaware motorists told the Local Democracy Reporting Service there was no signage or were not told about this, causing traffic mayhem for people needing to get into or pass through Windsor.

One driver said: “It’s chaos. We had no advanced notice, there are no signs up anywhere, and the people who drive up and find out it’s all blocked can’t turn round, people are sitting in queues.

“I spoke to a woman police constable, who said it was totally disorganised and it was going to go on for hours.

“It’s absolute chaos.”

In response, a council spokesman said: “We apologise to those people who were caught up in traffic today. There were some road closures that were put in place for a small amount of time to facilitate a rehearsal for Her Majesty’s official birthday on Saturday.

“These same closures will be in place then. The closures are advertised in advance on One Network at https://one.network/ and on the roads affected.”
