THAMES Valley Police is appealing for information in relation to an affray in Slough with a Section 60 order now authorised.

A Section 60 is different to normal stop and search, as it gives police the right to search people without reasonable grounds. This can only happen in a defined area at a specific time when a senior officer believes there is a possibility of serious violence, or weapons are involved.

The order began at 9.35pm yesterday (June 10) and will last 24 hours, when it will be reviewed and further extended if necessary.

The Section 60 order covers the area shown on the map; the area bordered by The Tuns Extension to the West, the M4 to the south, the A4 to the north to its junction with Tuns Lane, Tuns Lane to its junction with Church Street, Chalvey, Church Street to its junction with Windsor Road, and Windsor Road (South) to the M4 overbridge.

The activation of the order is in response to two incidents last night, which police are appealing for information in connection with.

The first incident happened at about 6.50pm.

Police said members of the public reported two males on scooters wearing balaclavas and carrying a machete in the Daylesford Grove area of Cippenham. Police attended the scene, but the two males had fled the scene.

The second incident occurred at approximately 9.30pm. Members of the public reported a fight involving a group of males, also in the Daylesford Grove area.

Two 22-year-old men from Slough have been arrested on suspicion of affray and remain in police custody at this time.

Local Policing Area for Slough, Superintendent Gavin Wong said: “Thames Valley Police does not take the decision to enforce Section 60 lightly. These orders exist to help the police prevent serious violence. We can use these powers where serious violence has taken place or where we think it may take place.

“The Section 60 order will allow our officers them to search people without needing to suspect that they may be carrying weapons.

“This will also mean that there will be an increased number of officers in the area while the order is in place. If you have any concerns or information, please speak to an officer.

“The violence that was witnessed in Cippenham last night is not acceptable and we will use these powers in order to make our streets safer for everyone.

“If there are any witnesses or anyone with information about the two incidents last night that hasn’t already contacted the police, I would urge them to leave any information they have on our website or call 101, quoting reference number 43210254291.

“I would like to thank those members of the public who have already passed on vital information, and would like to thank the community for their support and cooperation.”
