A MURAL could soon be added to spruce up a Slough park thanks to volunteers and a company donating over £2,000 worth of paint.

Volunteers from GoodGym and Foxborough residents gathered in their masses to clear up Grampian Playground from rubbish and dead vegetation on Monday, July 26.

Not only was this to spruce it up, but it was also to prepare to start paint works on the nearby wall for a mural in tribute to the community.

Foxborough councillor Madhuri Bedi (Independent) said she was going to use some of her community investment fund, which is given to councillors to invest in community projects, to commission the artwork.

But due to the section 114 in place, those funds were frozen.

Earlier this month, Slough Borough Council effectively declared bankruptcy and had to freeze all non-essential spending.

But Cllr Bedi is determined for the project to go ahead, saying: “There’s a section 114 but in Foxborough, we’re not letting this stuff stop us. We’re going to do this.”

According to Cllr Bedi, paint supplier Akzonobel has donated leftover paint worth over £2,000 from the Changing Rooms programme for the community to paint on the wall.

Before the section 114, Cllr Bedi commissioned an artist, costing £650. So far, only £400 has been raised.

The next step will be for the wall to be jet washed and cleaned before the community can paint it.

Cllr Bedi said: “My Mom use to say, ‘one finger on its own can’t do anything, but if you make it into a fist that’s the power of the community together’ and that’s what we’re seeing in Foxborough. It’s just wonderful.”
