THE DAD of an Olympic bronze medalist explained how he divided his family in two to live 100 miles apart so her 'energetic' daughter could excel.

Amelie Morgan from Slough won bronze in the women's Team GB gymnastics team alongside Aylesbury twins Jennifer and Jessica Gadirova and Alice Kinsella.

Before her sporting career took off, the 18-year-old trained at Slough Gymnastics Club but they couldn't accommodate her due to her exceptional talent.

The Daily Mail reported how her dad David and his wife Kate decided to divide their family in two and live 100 miles apart so Amelie could excel.

Speaking to the national newspaper, David said: "Making that decision was huge. Amelie has clear ability a great work ethic and temperament and where that would lead we didn't know. But it was a dream she wanted to follow.

"We had twins full of energy, so we had to find something to do, says David. "Gymnastics was an hour-and-a-half on a Saturday morning, and everything else was just an hour.' Before long, Amelie was training 20 hours a week."

As a junior, Morgan excelled, claiming two silvers at the 2018 European Championships junior event, and also won two silvers at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in the all-around and on the floor, and bronze on the balance beam.

Morgan was able to make her senior debut a year later, winning gold in the all-around at the English Championships, and bronze in the all-around, uneven bars, and balance beam at the British Championships.

She has had a tough time with injuries, missing out on the 2019 World Championships and 2020 American Cup, but did perform exceptionally well in the European Championships earlier this year where she claimed bronze in the uneven bars, and fourth on the balance beam and all-around.

She was then left 'speechless' after winning her Olympic bronze medal.

“I had to pinch myself to check that it was real, we were absolutely speechless, I didn’t know what to think, I was over the moon.”
