A community in Slough has come together to create a mural to celebrate its residents.

Local artist Alesea Martinov painted a mural on a wall on Grampian Way in Slough, representing the community over the decades, depicting children, families and grandparents in an array of bright colours.

Councillor Madhuri Bedi said: “The mural speaks of the journey of life through art. It starts from birth and goes through the phases of life and the people and experiences we have along the way.

"It tells a story, it's really vibrant, it's colourful and there's a lot to be learnt from it.

“Alongside the journey of life, are quotes, which have been really thought out to match every phase.

"Slough is one of the most diverse towns in England, so the wall also represents this diversity and mutual respect of these cultures.

“I had to be careful because the work on it was previously done by the now older residents within the community when they were children and it had meant so much to so many.

"One resident, Jacqueline whose father had helped to organise the original mural, came out and put the first stroke of paint on the wall - which was heartwarming to see.

“This wall was a legacy to so many, so we had to be sensitive in the manner that we went about it, but you could also see that the need was there as it wasn't the best thing for children to look at.

“This journey has not just come about now, it was something I have been trying to do for a number of years.

"Despite all the odds and many challenges faced, with the immense support of everybody involved who so very graciously gave their time, expertise, paint, tools and enthusiasm, we made it happen."
