SLOUGH has been named in the top 50 worst places to live in England.

According to the latest poll conducted by ILiveHere.com, the Berkshire town was ranked 24th.

Peterborough was crowned as the worst place to live in the country for the third successive year, with Huddersfield and Liverpool making up the top three.

A spokesman from ILiveHere.com said: “Every year we run a poll throughout November and December to find the worst place to live in England.

“A staggering 125,681 visitors voted for 2021, smashing our previous year’s record.”

Reading also appears in the list coming in at 39th place.

But we think the ranking is a little harsh for Slough.

Family friendly

Data from the parenting website Play Like Mum shows 35 per cent of schools in Slough are outstanding by Ofsted, the highest award given when inspections are carried out.

The website also places the Berkshire town top for family-friendly restaurants with 359.19 child-friendly restaurants per 100,000 people.

The data was rounded by looking at the number of restaurants tagged as being ‘Child-Friendly’ according to TripAdvisor.

The area is also a great place to live in for young families, with 78.40 per cent of households with dependent children.

Close links to M4, Heathrow and London

If you're looking to live close to the Capital then Slough is the best place to be.

Just hop on the train and within 20 minutes you're in Paddington or drive for 10 minutes and you're at the airport.

Most ethnically diverse town

Detailed figures from the 2011 census found the town had the highest proportion of Asian/British Asian residents anywhere in England and Wales, with 40% of residents coming from that background.

Fiona Mactaggart, Slough MP at the time, said she was delighted by the town's varied ethnicity.

"Companies tell me that this diversity is one of the reasons why they invest in our town."

'Best place to work'

Slough is a prime location for jobs with head offices including Mars and O2 based there.

The town is also home to the largest industrial estate in Europe, with more than 600 buildings.

The Estate is home to 400 tenants from counties including the US, France, Italy, Japan, Germany and South Korea.

Residents can't get enough of the freshly cooked spuds and it just goes to show how much support the local street trader has had.
