A SLOUGH man jailed again for possessing images of children being sexually abused search for ‘nudist family pics’ online, a court has heard.

Victor Berry, of Ardrossan Close, was yesterday jailed after he admitted to having images of children as young as one-year-old being sexually abused on his laptop.

In total, the 63-year-old had more than 300 images of children and one image showing sexual intercourse with an animal.

The possession of these photographs meant he breached two conditions imposed in a sexual offences prevention order handed to him in 2010 after he was convicted for possession of indecent images a decade ago.

Prosecuting, Matthew Knight said Berry was not allowed to own a laptop or search for any kind of pornography under the terms of the order.

But investigations by police showed Berry made the following searches online:

  • ‘Nudist family pics’
  • ‘Nudist family with children’
  • ‘Porn kids pics’
  • '12-year-olds’

Police busted Berry at his Slough home acting upon intelligence in October 2019.

They seized his laptop and found 45 category A images (the most explicit material possible), 32 category B images, and 266 category C images.

This, Mr Knight argued, showed Berry was “deliberately and systematically searching for images of young children suffering sexual abuse.”

Defending, John Waller said Berry’s wife, for whom he cared, was “disappointed and disgusted” that he was “in this position again.”

Mr Waller said Berry claimed he did not know why he looked at these images but when challenged, he admitted he did have a sexual interest in children to his legal representative.

“He does recognise he had a problem but he does struggle to admit that to himself”, the barrister added.

The lawyer argued Berry’s second conviction showed he did not respond well to prison time as he offended again following a stint behind bars for his first conviction.

“He came out of prison last time without any coping mechanisms or without an education which would have helped him to stay away from this material”, Mr Waller added.

The defence counsel said Berry was “extremely remorseful” and he had a “good prospect of rehabilitation.”

“We are not dealing with somebody who is a danger to the public”, Mr Waller concluded after asking the Judge for a suspended sentence.

But Her Honour Judge Nott disagreed with this assessment and said Berry was “obsessed” with images of child sex abuse.

Sentencing, she said: “There is no demonstration you have taken any steps to prevent this offending behaviour.

“This is a very serious and persistent breach [of the SOPO].

“It becomes more serious because you were looking for child pornography in the face of an order preventing you from doing exactly that.”

Judge Nott said one of the images showed one child particularly distressed and in pain.

She added: “I accept you have not caused that harm but people like you who look for that material cause that industry to thrive.”

The Judge said Berry presented a risk to children, that the 63-year-old had a disregard for court orders and that custody was an appropriate punishment for the Slough man.

Berry was sentenced to two years imprisonment for three counts of making indecent images, two counts of breaching a sexual offences prevention order, one count of possession of extreme pornography, and one count of possession of prohibited images.

He was told of his sentence by Mr Waller after he appeared unable to hear the Judge’s remarks and began weeping upon learning of his fate.

Berry was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Thursday, December 2.
