THAI food and Christmas aren't two words I'd put together but combining festive flavours with spice works a dream.

I love Thai food - it's rich, wholesome food packed with flavour and the dishes at Giggling Squid in Windsor will leave you feeling full and satisfied.

I have been to the same restaurant a couple of years ago and remember it being one of my favourite Thai meals, so when I was invited to try their festive menu I couldn't wait.

It was a fantastic evening, where my partner and I received a warm welcome inside as we walked in from opposite the Queen's humble abode.

Several waiters greeted us with a smile, giving us a drinks menu and guiding us to our cosy corner table. I chose to nestle myself on the comfy seat so I can admire the views of the pretty pink restaurant.

I wasn't sure what to expect with the Christmas menu as we had to pre-order it.

The options I chose were the Crispy ruby duck, hark the hake and mussels main and the Pattaya mess dessert.

My partner chose the Spicy chicken wings, Golden roast duck curry and Melting heart chocolate dessert.

Slough Observer:

This arrived and turned out to be thin crunchy ribbons of noodle with sticky strips of duck. It was beautifully presented on the plate with a delicious sticky and sweet coating on the duck.

Connor, meanwhile, enjoyed his moreish Spicy chicken wings which came in a thick and tasty sauce. The chicken melted off the bone which was a bonus.

Slough Observer:

Pretty soon after that our mains arrived. My eyes lit up when I saw the fresh mussel formation around the plate.

Despite the menu stating the dish has chilli, it wasn't spicy at all. The sauce was creamy and rich, with a hint of spice. The sweetness helped mellow it down.

The sauce was the perfect accompaniment for the meaty fish, was cooked in a delicious sticky and crispy batter.

The hake was a little bit heavy, which is a shame as I was expecting it to be flakier.

Nonetheless, the sauce helped it go down like a treat and the mussels were light and delicious. I could have just had a bowl of them to myself.

If you're not a seafood kind of person, then you would have enjoyed the Golden Roast Duck Curry main.

Slough Observer:

Don't eat too much though because the portion sizes are massive. His main came with slices of crispy roast duck in a sticky coating with fresh sugar snap peas, fine beans and edamame for a sweet crunch.

The sauce was very similar to my dish, and went beautifully with the soft, sticky Jasmine rice.

Then came the desserts to finish off the meal.

Slough Observer:

Even though we were bursting at the seams, I was looking forward to a light and fresh dessert after the richness of the savour dishes.

Sadly, the dessert I originally wanted to pre-order had run out (Prosecco cheesecake) but I was pleasantly surprised with the Pattaya Mess.

The British dessert classic of Eton Mess was given a Thai style shake-up and it was nice.

I wouldn't say I was mad about it and if I visited again, I'd probably opt for the Prosecco Cheesecake.

But I did enjoy the fresh Matcha jelly cubes with the fresh blueberries and cream.

Slough Observer:

My partner enjoyed his chocolatey dessert, with the sauce oozing out onto the fresh kiwi and ice cream.

Enjoy a festive starter, main and dessert with a Thai twist for only £32.95.

The Christmas menu is available until December 31, 2021.
