WINDSOR’S annual Carols On The Hill event has raised more than £800 for two worthy causes this year.

The festive celebration, which was held on December 10 outside Windsor Castle, saw hundreds of families gather to enjoy an evening of Christmas carol service.

The charity collection held during the event raised a total of £889.

This will be shared equally between Christian Aid, a UK charity fighting global poverty, and locally-based mental health organisation, Number 22 Community Counselling Services.

Speaking on behalf of Churches Together in Windsor, event coordinator Susy Shearer said: “We’re immensely grateful to everyone for generously supporting this year’s selected charities and work undertaken to meet profound needs in the communities they serve.

“It’s a wonderful testimony to the spirit of human care and collective kindness.”

Featuring the Band of the Household Cavalry, live music was played around the town’s Christmas tree.

And special guests The Mayor of The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Cllr John Story and The Mayoress Barbara Story joined in with the festivities.

Mrs Shearer added: “We're indebted to all the organisations, agencies and individual volunteers which, without their generous and willing support, this service could not have taken place.”
