A small Burnley business said they have seen a boom in Twitter followers and visitors to their website since receiving special recognition from a former Dragons' Den investor.

Theo Paphitis, who was on the BBC show between 2005-2013 shared a tweet from a human resources consultancy Burnley business, Cube HR, to his 486,000 followers.

It was shared as part of his ‘Small Business Sunday’ initiative which rewards small businesses that tweet him and describe their businesses in one tweet including the all-important hashtag #SBS.

Every Monday night at 8pm, Theo, reviews and chooses his favourite lucky six who are then re-tweeted.

As well as a retweet, the chosen businesses will also be able to post about their business on the exclusive Small Business Sunday website.

This week, Theo chose Cube HR after they tweeted: “It’s almost two years that we’ve given free HR advice to businesses that have needed it, saving 100’s of jobs during the pandemic.

“We’ve even won awards for it but we’d love to be part of the Small Business Sunday crew too.”

Lisa Sourbett, Managing Director of Cube HR, said she was “excited” to find out that the business had been chosen by Theo and his team.

She said: “I had so many messages from clients and friend – and my Twitter feed just went off.

“We gained around 100 followers, which was pretty impressive considering we only have a small number of followers on there to begin with.

“I’ve met a lot of other new businesses who have enquired about what we do.

“The support he gives to smaller businesses is just amazing.”

As well as a 60 per cent boost in Twitter followers, Lisa said there has also been a 20 per cent increase in website traffic since the retweet.

She said: “We have receive so many more enquiries about our businesses and people mentioned they spotted us through Theo’s tweet.

“We gave a lot of free HR advice over the pandemic and saved more than 100 jobs. I think Theo and his team thought this deserved a retweet.”
