A careless driver who fled the scene after he crashed into another car has been ordered to pay up more than £1,000.

At a hearing at Wycombe Magistrates’ Court, Mohammed Sohail, 31, was fined £880 and ordered to pay an extra £220 in costs following the colission in Belgrave Road, Slough.

Sohail, of Gilliat Road, was driving a Nissan Micra when he was involved in an accident on July 10, 2021. During the crash, Sohail hit and damaged another car.

Rather than stay on the scene and exchange details with the other driver, Sohail took off. He also neglected to report the accident to a police station, which is also a criminal offence.

At the court hearing on February, Magistrates found that Sohail was guilty of driving without due care and attention when he crashed the car.

The justices also found him guilty of failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident to the police.

As well as the £880 fine and £220 cost, Sohail was given six points on his driving licence. Drivers that accrue 12 points over a three-year period can face a substantial driving ban, known as a ‘totting-up’ disqualification.
