SLOUGH’S MP wears sanction with a “badge of honour” as he is among the 287 members of parliament banned from entering Russia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced today (April 27) that they banned nearly 300 British MPs from entering the Russian Federation in response to sanctions against Russian politicians.

In the statement, they accuse the parliamentarians listed of “whipping up of Russophobic hysteria”.

It read: “The hostile rhetoric and far-fetched accusations coming from the mouths of British parliamentarians not only condone the hostile course of London, aimed at demonizing our country and its international isolation, but are also used by opponents of mutually respectful dialogue with Russia to undermine the foundation of bilateral cooperation.”

Slough’s MP Tan Dhesi said he is “proud” to wear the sanction with a “badge of honour,” saying President Putin’s ban will not “intimidate” him from speaking out over Russia’s illegal war with Ukraine.

Mr Dhesi said: “Today, the Russia regime has sanctioned the UK MPs it believes have taken the most active part in the UK’s response to Russia’s barbaric and illegal war in Ukraine and has banned them from entering Russia.

“I’m proud to say that I am one of those MPs and I’ll wear these sanctions with a badge of honour.

“If President Putin thinks that banning me from Russia will intimidate me, or stop me from standing up for democracy, human rights or issues I care about, he doesn’t know me at all.

“I once again call on Russia to stop its brutal invasion of Ukraine and fully support the efforts the UK is taking to support the people of Ukraine in their hour of need.”
