A LITTER picking group marked Earth Day by spending one hour of their time cleaning up a park in Slough.

The Slough Anti-Litter Society took a trip to Lascelles Park and collected six bags of rubbish including plastic waste, discarded clothes and a bolt cutter.

Earth Day, celebrated annually, was on April 22 and this year’s theme was ‘Invest in our planet’.

Tirza Meinema, chair of the Slough Anti-Litter Society, said: "It is easy to stop caring about the litter problem in our town and to think, the litter will be there again tomorrow so why bother?

“However, no one likes litter and the only solution is to make a stand together against it."

Mrs Meinema explained they made the earth a “bit better” that day.

“It seemed fitting that for Earth Day we focused on cleaning up this 'hidden' litter as it does so much damage to the earth,” she said.

“Thank you to all our volunteers and to Slough Borough Council for picking up the bags."
