A JUNCTION in Slough has been described as a “shambles” as the traffic lights have stopped working for the third time this year.

The lights on Uxbridge Road, at the Rochford Gardens junction, first went out on March 16 and weren’t fixed until two weeks later.

This was proving to be “dangerous” for drivers as resident Steve Salt, of Rochford Gardens, explained to the Observer.

After it was fixed, they then broke again for a few days before eventually turning back on.

Mr Salt contacted the Observer again to explain they went out for a third time on April 23 and he said the council aren't fixing it.

“They’ve now stopped working for around 10 days and it’s just terrible as drivers just come belting along down here,” he said.

Having seen some near misses, Mr Salt is concerned why the council hasn't taken action.

And the temporary signs to warn drivers of the issue that were originally there in March have now disappeared.

“We had a lorry come down Rochford Gardens to visit a nursery and he just couldn’t get out of the road to turn right as he approached the junction,” he said.

“The council are a waste of time, they are just blaming it on the fact that the systems are old but aren’t replacing them.”

Mr Salt also explained the major road nearby, The Frithe, is closed due to roadworks so it’s causing more traffic in the area.

And the road has got busier now schools are back after the Easter holidays.

With four schools near Wexham Estate, Mr Salt said it’s easier and quicker for people to walk from Rochford Gardens to school.

A council spokesperson said: “Effectively it is down to wear and tear, the equipment is old and more prone to power fluctuations which the controller responds to by shutting down the site to prevent green conflicts.

“We will be investigating ways to bring the site back on again and consider a full refurbishment, if funding becomes available.

“On the whole, people are taking care when negotiating the junction and we thank them for continuing to do so.”
