BUSINESSES in Langley have expressed their concerns for safety following the recent stabbing on Trelawney Avenue.

This comes after 18-year-old Abdul Aziz Faiz Ansari was stabbed to death on May 5, 2022.

Police cordoned off the parade of shops for almost two days while the murder investigaton was underway.

They all reopened to customers on Saturday, May 7 in the afternoon but the owners said it has lost them a lot of business.

The Observer spoke to five shop owners and a resident in Trelawney Avenue and they all agreed they would like to see more police patrolling the area.

“It isn’t safe around here,” one store manager, who wished to remain anonymous, said.

“It was disturbing for everyone when this happened and it’s really affected my business.

“We always get groups hanging around here and I have to tell them off but they just come back the next day.”

The manager added he believes if the police aren’t here then a similar incident might happen again.

“Most people here are friendly, but we have these groups who are causing so many problems and they need to be controlled,” he said.

“There’s now a mother who is sat there crying after losing her son, it’s very sad, the police need to take action.”

Slough Observer: The stabbing happened outside GT Road. The stabbing happened outside GT Road.

The Coop staff currently have cameras installed on their uniform because of the amount of incidents that have happened in the store.

Coop manager Harshad said: “We are always reporting on things that happen around here to the police every day, we get so many people stealing from our shop but nothing is ever done.

“Business has been very slow since Thursday, we closed for a coupe of days so that messed up our deliveries.”

Another nearby shop owner, who also wished to remain anonymous, said people are “scared” to come back and shop in the area.

Local policing area commander for Slough, Superintendent Lee Barnham, said: “We understand the concerns among the community following the tragic fatal stabbing in Trelawney Avenue but there is no suggestion there is any wider risk to the public as it was an isolated incident.

“We have charged one teenage male with murder and possession of an offensive weapon, another with affray and possession of a bladed article, and arrested two others in relation to it following a thorough investigation by our Major Crime Unit.

“Officers have been conducting extra patrols in the area following the incident and I would encourage anyone who is worried to tell them about their concerns."

Supt Barnham added officers regularly review information from the public and take action where necessary.

“We are committed to tackling knife crime in Slough and across the force,” he said.

“We have a team of officers focused on preventing violence as well as undertaking enforcement activity to deal with perpetrators of violence.

“I encourage the community to report incidents of anti-social behaviour either through our website or by calling 101.

“Alternatively, they can contact the independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or via its website.”
