IF you have driven on the M4 over the past few years you are likely to have come across one of the temporary speed limits in place on the motorway.

Upgrades have meant temporary speed limits of 50mph and 60mph have been enforced on the road throughout this time.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have been used to monitor the average speed of traffic over sections of the road.

The temporary speed limits are legally enforceable, meaning drivers who exceed this top speed are liable to penalties.

And people do get fined, as court filings show.

Here are some Berkshire motorists who have been told to pay up over the past two weeks after they were caught breaking the temporary speed limit on the M4 in Hillingdon, near Heathrow, on October 2, 2021.

Jagdeep Phull, 49, of London Road, Datchet, was caught speeding in a Porsche on the M4 prior to Junction 4 in Hillingdon.

He was fined £40, ordered to pay £74 in court fees and given three points on his licence.

He was fined £440, ordered to pay £134 in court fees and given five points on his licence.

Kirstie Cozins, 50, of Beechwood Close, Ascot, was caught speeding in a Volkswagen on the M4 prior to Junction 4 in Hillingdon.
